Spring is starting to tease us with its arrival here in Missoula. We seem to have made the shift to warmer weather, but all of that should be taken with a grain of salt because I was watching snow fly sideways as I enjoyed my coffee yesterday morning. Yesterday’s snow never had a chance to stick around, but winter seems to always have a trouble letting go.
With the warmer days and blue skies, we had our first boat hatch of the year last weekend. Rafts were being taken out of their hibernation and prepared for the season to come. The fishing has still been winter-like but that hasn’t kept many locals from getting out and enjoying the water. Missoula River Lodge guides Evan Phillippe and Jacob Hensley are out on the Bitterroot today to get a scouting report and enjoy some fishing time before the season kicks off.
Our current snowpack appears to be in good condition, with the Bitterroot Range currently reporting 116% of normal. We’ll see how spring progresses and keep an eye on these numbers, but we look to be in shape for another year of cool rivers throughout the summer.
Interested in coming to enjoy the springtime with us? We are still offering our discounted four night / three day spring fishing special in March and April for $855 per angler. Give us a call to find a great set of dates for your getaway!
